West Jones High School art student named Best in Show

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A West Jones High School art student was named Best in Show in the 4th Annual Congressional District Art Show and his work will be on display in Washington, D.C.

The winning mixed media piece by Jared Yelverton, entitled "Cold and Homeless" will hang in the U.S. Capitol tunnel for a year with other best in show winners from around the country.

"I am very deeply touched and I hope that they were right about it, because there is a lot of great artist here at West Jones and at the other competing schools, and I am really deeply honored by the award," said Jared Yelverton.

West Jones student Kayla Yates received Best in Show runner-up and will have her work on display at Congressman Palazzo's district office. Other top honors included:

 

  • Tanner Jeffers- 1st place
  • Aimee Phillips- 1st place
  • Nakiyah Jordan-2nd place
  • Nathan Crane-2nd place
  • Lauren Stevens- 2nd place
  • Laurel Jones-3rd place

 

There were also 47 art students from West Jones High School that received additional Congressional certificates. Art teacher Lori Harrison was also honored with a certificate and a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol at the request of Congressman Palazzo for her dedicated service to West Jones.
