Krispy Kreme, law enforcement raise funds for Special Olympics

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Police and Fire Departments will join forces with Krispy Kreme Saturday to raise money for the local Special Olympics.

"Cops on Doughnut Shops" will take place this Saturday, April 26 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Hattiesburg Krispy Kreme on Highway 98.

"We firmly believe that giving back to the community is something that we should be a part of, and it ties in nicely with our corporate mission, which is to touch and enhance lives through the joy that is Krispy Kreme," said Hattiesburg Krispy Kreme manager Billy Dorgan, Jr. "It really is just exciting for us to be able to give back to the community."

Policemen and firefighters will stand on top of Krispy Kreme's roof for 12 hours Saturday to catch the attention of passerby to raise awareness of their project.

"We do the torch run with special olympics every year, and we love doing that," said HPD Lt. Jon Traxler. "We love helping them. Giving back to the community, this is our way of working with a local business to try to help out with that as well."

Donations of all amounts are accepted at Saturday's event, and each bracket merits a certain reward, all being in the form of Krispy Kreme donuts.
