ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Congressman Steven Palazzo was in Ellisville Thursday, helping a major industry celebrate an early birthday. Palazzo toured GE Aviation, which will mark its one year anniversary next week.

So far, the company has hired 77 employees, with plans to hire hundreds more in the next couple of years.

It's part of a $56 million investment and, according to Palazzo, a sign that Mississippi's economy is diversifying.

"We've got shipbuilding, we've got manufacturing, we've got advanced manufacturing, we've got forestry, we've got agriculture and farming," Palazzo said. "It's good not to put all your eggs in one basket, and it provides a multitude of opportunities for everybody who really wants to get out and get a job," he said.

Palazzo said the company plans on hiring 250 people by 2016.
