JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

When it comes to parking fines and speeding tickets  - nobody is a fan, but we pay them because we have to.

At least some of us do.

According to Johnson City police, there are currently a little more than 10,000 unpaid tickets. When we first brought you this story in April, there were nearly 14,000 unpaid tickets amounting to $1.5 million.

So far, 311 cases have been paid. Now, citizens have until June 1 to make a payment.

The Johnson City Municipal Court says it will work with a collections agency to satisfy delinquent citations.  The city of Johnson City and the police department posted a list of unsettled citations on their websites. – to encourage payment.

"Actually it was kind of shocking to find out we had this many citations that had not been paid," said Major Gary Younger, with the Johnson City Police.

Delinquent citations that are submitted to a collection agency will incur an additional fee of 17.37%.  The additional fee can be avoided if the citation is paid before the accounts are submitted to the collection agency. There are thousands of names on the list.

"We're going to do everything we can to identify these people and allow the people time to make restitution and we'll give at least a minimum of 30 days," said Younger.

If you have a question regarding delinquent citations, call the Johnson City Police Department Records at  423-434-6160.

News Channel 11 added the database of names to this story. To see if you have a delinquent ticket, click here to view our searchable database.
