Sandersville alderman wins run off election for mayor

SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Long time Alderman Bob White was elected to mayor Tuesday in Sandersville. In a run off election White defeated Darlene Hill, the widow of former Mayor Jimmy Hill who died in February.

White has been acting mayor since Hill died. He has been an alderman for 31-years and since 1997 has served as board chairman. He also has filled in as mayor on two different occasions.

"There's several projects that we're working on," said White.I would also like to start a coalition with the business leaders of the community, invite them to a town meeting and get one representative and maybe perhaps one from the churches just to make sure Sandersville is a better place to live."

A special election will now be held to fill the vacated alderman at large seat that was held by White. That election will take place in the next 30 to 45 days.

White will be sworn as mayor Friday.
