Sources reported Monday evening that University of Southern Mississippi men's basketball coach Donnie Tyndall will accept a position with the University of Tennessee Vols Tuesday.
ESPN and CBS both posted articles stating Louisiana Tech's Mike White, who was originally offered the head coach position, turned the offer down. Tyndall was then offered the spot for five years at $8 million overall. But negotiations were still being held Monday night because Tyndall wanted six years instead of five, a source told ESPN.
USM Athletic Director Bill McGillis mentioned Tyndall's service to USM Athletics on his Twitter account Tuesday morning.
Since the end of the 2013-2014 basketball season, Tyndall has been rumored to be a candidate for several openings at other schools.
Tyndall has spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Southern Miss leading the Golden Eagles to an overall record of 56-17 along with two quarterfinal appearances in the National Invitation Tournament.
