Governor Phil Bryant signs Healthy Kids Day Proclamation

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Ten kids from the Petal Family Y were at the state Capitol Monday for the signing of a proclamation by Governor Phil Bryant declaring Saturday, April, 26 Healthy Kids Day.

Healthy Kids Day is a YMCA initiative designed to help improve the health and well being of children. Over 1500 family Y's across the country are taking part in the initiative by holding events filled with family fun, active play and educational opportunities.

As part of Healthy Kids Day the Petal Family Y has implemented a Champions Challenge Program.

"We try to let the kids know that after school is not just about having a safe place to be, it's about a healthier and happier child through active lifestyle, said Ann Culpepper, Senior Programs Director, Petal Family Y.

A Healthy Kids Day newsletter with tips on keeping kids active and healthy is available at the Petal Family Y.
