The 7th annual Rotary Run begins at the Longleaf Trace Saturday morning.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Dozens of runners gathered on the Longleaf Trace Saturday morning to help the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg-Sunrise raise money for a worthy cause.
They took part in the7th annual Rotary Run 5K Run/Walk. Most of the proceeds will benefit the Edwards Street Fellowship Center.
That organization provides emergency and supplemental food to more than 1,000 families every month.
"We usually look for a target somewhere around $10,000 and 60 percent of that goes to the Edwards Street Fellowship (Center) and the other 40 (percent) we're going to use for some other civic projects within the community," said Tom Heanue, club administrator.
"This extra boost of cash donation that we can use to go buy bulk food is really incredible and we are so appreciative," said Ann McCullen, executive director of the Edwards Street Fellowship Center.
The Rotary Club of Hattiesburg-Sunrise currently has about 40 members.
