HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A world-famous Mississippi musician was among a distinguished group of former Pearl River Community College students and graduates recognized for their outstanding achievements Thursday night. Singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffet was one of six people inducted into the college's Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Hattiesburg.

Buffet, who attended PRCC from 1965-66, sent a brief video message thanking the school for the honor. Other inductees included Army Air Corps veteran and former state legislator Delos H. Burks, businessman James R. Ginn, civil engineer Francis Herrin, retired Secret Service agent Howell Purvis and attorney Donald M. Waits.

"So many of these folks come from very humble backgrounds and they have worked hard to achieve what they've been able to accomplish in their lifetimes and they came to Pearl River looking for an opportunity," said Dr. William Lewis, president of PRCC.

The Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame awards were first presented in 2012.
