Flight attendant's humor livens up plane safety speech

(RNN) - It's virtually unheard of that a flight attendant gets an ovation after reading the safety instructions before takeoff, but Southwest Airlines passengers got more entertainment than they expected.

In a three-minute monologue full of brutal honesty, sarcasm and a few things that could save their lives in the event of a crash, one woman actually got her passengers to listen.

"Basically, just do what we say, and nobody gets hurt," she quipped in a Southern accent midway through her spiel. "And although we never anticipate a loss in cabin pressure, if we did we certainly wouldn't be at work tonight."

Although the joke about webcams in the lavatory apparently went over the passengers' heads, she redeemed herself with a bit about inserting change to activate the oxygen masks.

On this particular flight, it was 75 cents for the first minute.

"That's what we call cheap entertainment - you don't have to pay extra, but you certainly don't get a refund," she said in closing.
