CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville attorney is facing one less criminal charge.

On Wednesday, prosecutors said they were no longer pursuing a harassment charge against Fletcher Long filed by Christie Hill, the former spokeswoman for the mayor of Clarksville.

Prosecutors said they might pursue the charge at a later date if other evidence surfaces.

Long has denied sending harassing text messages to Hill and can now move to have the charge expunged from his record.

The ruling has nothing to do with Long's other pending criminal charge of extortion.

Long continues to be on the legal team for Vanderbilt rape suspect Brandon Vandenberg.

Long released a statement after the decision not to prosecute him:

"If the case had gone further, I was prepared to offer records from my telephone service provider showing that I did not send the text messages in question. I look forward to moving on with representing my clients vigorously so as to avoid the rush to judgment which fortunately did not occur in my case."
