Republican State Senator and U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel speaks to a meeting of Jones County Republican Women Wednesday.
LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -
With less than two months to go until the June 3 Republican Primary, U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel said Wednesday that the campaign of longtime incumbent GOP Senator Thad Cochran is "desperate" and has resorted to running negative adds against him.
McDaniel was in Laurel, to speak to a meeting of Jones County Republican Women.
McDaniel, a state senator from Laurel, is trying to unseat Cochran, who has served in the Senate since 1978.
McDaniel responded to adds criticizing him for accepting out-of-state campaign donations.
"There are going to be outside contributors naturally, but here's the distinction...everyone of Senator Cochran's contributors are lobbyists and Washington insiders," McDaniel said. "My contributions are coming from average people all across this country," he said. "All they want is their country back."
McDaniel also challenged Cochran to a debate on the issues.
