Mayors sign Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

The Mayor of Ellisville Tim Waldrup and the Mayor of Laurel Johnny Magee signed a proclamation Tuesday recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

After signing the proclamations, The Jones County Division of Family & Children's Services kicked off the month with a release of blue balloons. The mayors along with several county and city officials took part in the event which was held at the Jones County Department of Human Services.

DHS Accounting Clerk Gill Jones says many children are abused throughout the country and the agency wants to bring awareness to this issue during this month.

During the month of April, several Jones County schools and departments will recognized the month as well by showing off blue ribbons around their buildings.
