MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Khalfani Hardwick, 26, remains in the Montgomery County Detention Facility, charged with attempted murder.

Montgomery Police didn't report the exact location where the shots were fired, but confirmed it happened in the 5600 block of Carmichael Road, home to the Ashton Apartments.

Police say the shooting happened around midnight and the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and continues to recover.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Friday night, Hardwick turned himself in, and was formally charged with attempted murder.

The Montgomery County District Attorney referred the case to the Attorney General's Office, which is protocol in this set of circumstances.

Hardwick is the son of Montgomery County Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick, and Tommie Hardwick, a Federal Prosecutor in Alabama's Middle District.

Hardwick remains in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on $25,000 dollars bond.
