LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Art lovers and artists alike from across the Pine Belt were in Laurel Saturday night, to purchase some fine art while supporting a fine cause. They gathered at the 6th annual Art of Healing event for the South Central Healthcare Foundation.

It featured both a live and silent auction of more than 225 pieces of art, some from artists as far away as New York and Boston.

Seven collegiate pieces from students at Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Mississippi State were also up for bid.

"This money goes toward the South Central Healthcare Foundation and it goes to our community health education screenings, health education programs that we do, and prevention for healthcare needs," said Becky Collins, director of communication for South Central Regional Medical Center.

Organizers hoped to eclipse last year's fundraising total of $23,000.
