ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is requesting assistance in identifying the suspect of an attempted sexual assault that occurred Wednesday night on St. Helena Island.

Deputies responded at about 10 p.m., March 26, to the area of No Mans Land Lane on St. Helena. The assault occurred in the vicinity of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the Orange Grove area of St. Helena Island.

Investigators continue efforts to identify the suspect, who was described by the victim as an African American male driving a two door, dark in color vehicle. With the cooperation of the victim, a forensic artist from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division prepared a composite sketch of the suspect.

The victim had abrasions on her body and was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. The woman told investigators that while she was in the vehicle, the suspect demanded that she remove her clothing.

The victim got into physical fight with him and did remove part of her clothing, but was able to open the door of the vehicle, according to the BCSO.  That's when she was pushed out of the vehicle while it was still moving.

Anyone with information about the case can call Cpl. Jason Malphrus at 843.255.3426 or call CrimeStoppers at 888.Crime.SC 888.274.6372.
