FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - 120 employees in the District VI office of the Mississippi Dept. of Transportation tested their skills Thursday in an annual Maintenance Operators Roadeo at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center.
They competed in six events. Three involved trucks and the others featured tractor bush hogs, backhoes and motor graders.
"We have a lot of guys that operate this equipment in their various counties and crews that they work in and it gives them a chance to come out and take pride in what they do, show their skills and show off what they can do," said Cape Jones, Dist. 6 maintenance engineer for MDOT.
"It's quite competitive out here," said Tracy Woods, a competitor and an MDOT area maintenance superintendent for Jackson, George and Stone Counties. "You'll see (competitors) sitting around here timing each other, writing each other's scores down and stuff like that. It's pretty competitive," he said.
Winners received plaques and they qualified to participate in a statewide competition in Meridian in June.
