JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Red Flag Warning for many areas in central and south Mississippi.
The Red Flag Warning means critical fire conditions exist or are going to occur. During this period folks are advised not to burn any debris piles until after the warning has been lifted.
Typically this time of year in the Pine Belt dry conditions combined with high winds and low humidity causes an increase in out of control brush fires.
"This is the time of year where we get high pressure coming in that drops the humidity down, then bring in some high winds and it's just an example of the weather here," said Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Coordinator. "While it's a nice day, it's not a good day to do outdoor burning."
The Red Flag Warning is expected to continue into the evening hours.
