Jones County driver escapes injury in one-vehicle rollover

The following is a news release from the Jones County Fire Council written by Linda Cranford:

A Jones County driver escaped injury Sunday night, March 23, when his Ford Explorer left the road, turned over, and crashed into nearby trees.

At 8:55 p.m. emergency medical first responder and rescue units from Powers Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident, which occurred on Eastview Drive near Smith Chapel Road.  Upon arrival, the rescuers found the adult male driver outside of his vehicle.  The driver had freed himself from the overturned SUV by kicking out the front windshield.

The driver refused any medical attention from volunteer emergency medical first responders or EMServ ambulance service medics.

The driver was taken into custody by Jones County Sheriff's Department deputies.

The overturned vehicle's front tires and front end were wedged between trees, which complicated the vehicle recovery operations.  Powers volunteers remained on scene for almost two hours assisting in the recovery operations.
