HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg-based recovery organization which has restored dozens of homes for low-income families since Hurricane Katrina is set to officially dedicate a residence for volunteers who come to help. Next Tuesday, R3SM (Recover, Rebuild, Restore Southeast Mississippi) will host a dedication ceremony for its Vounteer House on Buschman Street.

The event will also honor former University of Southern Mississippi President Dr. Aubrey K. Lucas and founding executive director of R3SM Sheila Varnado.

Restoration work on the 96-year-old building began about three years ago and much of the labor was done by volunteers.

The building will now be able to house up to 70 volunteers on the first and second floors.  Dozens have already been staying on the first floor, helping with recovery efforts from both Hurricane Katrina and the Feb. 10, 2013 tornado.

The offices of R3SM are also located in the house.

The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. on March 25.
