Laurel students learn healthy lifestyle tips from Laurel Police

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Students at Mason Elementary School in Laurel participated in an activity to promote healthy living Friday.

Members of the Laurel Police Department visited the school as part of the Children's Healthy Heroes Initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle change for fourth graders.

The students learned about healthy eating and nutrition, along with taking part in a fitness walk through the community.

"What we are doing, and as far as the importance of this program, is we are wanting our children to be healthy, productive, as far as the nutritional exercise, to be healthy in our schools and in the community as far as the parents and the kids, and the grandparents, the grandmothers, their friends and family," said Gary Dickerson from the LPD.

Members of the Healthy Heroes team from the LPD will visit multiple elementary schools in the city of Laurel to continue promoting a healthy lifestyle to the youth of the community.
