PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Petal High School hosted the third annual Mississippi Foreign Language Festival in the schools  Performing Arts Center Friday.

High school students from Petal, Oak Grove, South Jones, and Meridian were in attendance. The idea behind the festival is that the schools get to showcase their foreign language students performing in their target language or doing a demonstration of the culture of the country where the language is spoken. During the festival there were dancing, musical performances and skits.

"They learn to appreciate other  cultures and  respect other peoples views of the world and are able to showcase what they have learned," said Lucy Solano, Petal Spanish Teacher.

The festival rotates to different schools each year. This is the first time Petal High has hosted.
