2 sentenced in 2011 mall fatal shooting

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Two men have been sentenced for a fatal shooting outside the Natchez Mall in 2011.

Police say Walter Washington was shot while walking to his car in the mall parking lot.

The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1mhhq84 ) that Lee Raymond Smith Jr. and Latravis K. Clay were sentenced Tuesday by Circuit Judge Forrest "Al" Johnson.

Smith was given 20 years in prison and Clay was sentenced to 10 years. Each man pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Prosecutors say Smith fired the fatal shots from a car driven by Clay.

Prosecutors say investigators were told the slaying was in retaliation for an earlier incident in which Washington allegedly shot a family member of Clay's and Smith's outside a local nightclub.

Washington was facing charges in that case at the time of his death.
