Salvation Army volunteer earns governor's award

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A local volunteer is receiving a Commemorative Governor's Give Award for her work with the Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Club.

Jessica Morabito, a student at the University of Southern Mississippi, is one of ten volunteers from across the state that was given this honor. She has been volunteering in the Social Services Department at the Salvation Army for about five months.

"I just help out where I'm needed," she said.

Jessica also works with the children at the Boys and Girls Club, helping with homework and facilitating arts and crafts projects.

"I'm so lucky," said Jessica. "I've developed amazing relationships with the staff here."

And the staff could not be more complimentary. They have enjoyed working with Jessica, describing her as a compassionate, hard worker who always goes above and beyond the call of duty.

"She is a person who loves people," explained Frances Nixon of the Social Services Department.

Jessica will receive the official certificate from Governor Phil Bryant in the next few weeks.
