TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Donations from the public have poured in to help "Blue," a dog from Coaling that returned to his owners malnourished, half blind and seriously injured after he went missing for a week.

Owners Anthony and Cortney Herren believe someone brutally abused their three-year-old dog and they want answers.

"He was all skin and bones and had marks all over him," Anthony Herren said. "I don't know if they fought him or [were] planning on it."

Blue had surgery on Wednesday to remove the rest of his tail, which was partially chopped off. Doctors also had to remove his left eye due to a split cornea and put his leg in a splint.

Cortney Herren said the entire amount for Blue's surgery was raised after their story ran on FOX6 News Tuesday night.

The goal for Blue's surgery costs was $900 and they had raised $1,005 by Wednesday morning,  according to their funding website http://www.gofundme.com/7jttk4.

"We plan on doing a fundraiser for abused animal awareness and having something set up where his donators can meet him and we can meet their animals too," Cortney Herren said.

The Herrens hope Blue can come home on Thursday.

Coaling police continue to investigate the case.
