Birmingham PD pursues domestic violence suspect to Burger King

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham Police say there was a struggle to apprehend a dometic violence suspect at a Burger King restaurant.

Officers say they were investigating a domestic call at another location. The suspect fled the scene in a blackSUV. Police followed him to a parking lot outside the Burger King on Parkway East.Birmingham police officers demanded the suspect get outof his vehicle. He refused and police say he reached for what officers thoughtmay be a gun.

"Anotherofficer on the other side discharged his firearm. He thought that the officer,his partner, was being run over by the suspect. And after the shot was fired,the car stopped. And the individual stopped driving the car," said Lt. Sean Edwards with Birmingham PD.

The suspect is in custody. There are no reported injuries and officers say there was no shooting at the restaurant.
