Cottonmouths’ Tip-A-Snake auction raises money for Children’s Miracle Network

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Columbus Cottonmouths hockey players traded their skates for plates Tuesday night, serving up for a good cause.

The Columbus Cottonmouths teamed up with the Children's Miracle Network once again for the annual Tip-A-Snake Silent Auction.

The Hollywood-themed fundraiser kicked off at 6 p.m. in the Swan Ballroom at the Green Island Country Club.

Dinner was served at 7 p.m. and some hockey players waited tables. In past years, the players have been known to sing and dance to raise money. There is also a competition between players and between tables to see who can raise the most tip money.

On March 10, the Cottonmouths ice skated with children from CMN and their families to raise awareness about the fundraiser.

Last year's event raised more than $18,000 for the Children's Miracle Network.

"It's really important for us to be a part of this to help Children's Miracle Network," said goalie Andrew Loewen. "It's really close to our team's heart, we do a lot with Children's Miracle Network throughout the whole season, and this is our big fundraising event every year."

"We're really fortunate, and any way we can give back, we're glad to do it," added defenceman Kyle Johnson.

This year, the Cottonmouths are hoping to raise $30,000 for CMN.
