ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Every athlete looks forward to playing at the next level.

For one southwest Georgia soccer star, the competition isn't what she's most excited about however.

Sherwood Christian's Christina Charles signed her letter of intent with Truett McConnell this afternoon.

The SCA senior is the second Lady Eagle to sign with TMC in the last two seasons, following Destiny Allen.

Charles says she came to the decision while on an African mission trip, and says that trip convinced her Truett is where she needed to be.

"I went to Uganda, Africa with my team, and that's when the Lord really showed me that foreign missions were in my future," she says. "That's what majorly attracted me to Truett among other colleges, was the fact that they have a world missions major. So that's one thing I was really looking for."

Charles will be back in Africa with her future teammates shortly after graduation. She and the TMC team is headed to Rwanda on a mission trip.

While the mission work is a major part of Charles' life, she's also looking forward to playing soccer at the next level.

"I'm so excited just to continue to play soccer. I love the team. I'm obviously excited for the challenge coming in as a freshman," she says. "But I'm looking forward to growing as a player and just to getting better."
