TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Tift County pole vaulter Katie Utley is a three-time state champion, two-time indoor national champion, and now, the newest Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket.

Utley signed her letter of intent with Tech Wednesday afternoon in front of family and friends.

The senior is the three-time defending pole vault state champion, and holder of the GHSA state record vault of 12'6" set at the 2013 state championship meet.

Utley had offers from almost every major track program in the south, but chose Tech because of it's vaulting success and the school's academic prestige.

"They have a good vaulting program, and they have a good biomedical engineering program, which will help me get into the actual medical field," she says.

Even with another high school track season left, she says now that she's signed on the dotted line, it all feels real.

"It feels really close," Utley says. "I can't wait."

She says not only does she hope to earn her fourth straight state championship, but she'd also like to break her own state record.
