EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

An 11-year-old boy is recovering Tuesday night after beinghit by a car on Old Augusta Road in Effingham County.

The boy was life-flighted to Memorial Health with seriousinjuries, but is expected to survive.

Deputies said wrecks on that winding stretch of road aren't unusual.

"Next thin you know, somebody can be coming around thecurve," said David Ehsanipoor, spokesman for the Effingham County Sheriff'sOffice. "And unfortunately this child must not have seen the vehicle. However,it does not appear the driver of the vehicle was speeding.

Deputies said the boy was chasing a hula hoop across theroad when he was struck.

The driver is not expected to face charges.
