JCJC baseball Bobcats ranked No. 1 in the nation

ELLISVILLE – The No. 1 team in NJCAA Division II baseball resides in Ellisville.

For the first time in school history, the Jones County Junior College Bobcats are ranked No. 1 in the nation. The latest poll was released Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats received eight of the ten first place votes and garnered 195 points.

Head coach Christian Ostrander's team was No. 7 in the first regular season poll, which was released two weeks ago.

JCJC owns a 17-1 record and will host Itawamba Community College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at Community Bank Park. The Bobcats begin MACJC South Division play with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Pearl River.

LSU-Eunice, 16-4, is ranked No. 2, followed by defending champion Murray State College (Okla.), 13-4, at No. 3. LSU-Eunice received one first-place vote and 177 points. Murray State had one first-place vote and 173 points.

Other MACJC schools listed are East Mississippi, 13-5, at No. 6, Northwest Mississippi, 9-5, at No. 13 and Northeast Mississippi, 7-7, at No. 19.
