FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A man on trial in Forrest County Circuit Court for shooting his roommate in August 2012 has been found guilty of aggravated assault.

Former Southern Miss student Ryan Tutwiler was found guilty by a jury, and was sentenced 20 years in jail with two years of his sentence suspended. He will serve 18 years in prison, and was given a $2500 fine. Tutweiler will have a two year suspended probationary period after he serves his sentence.

Tutweiler was arrested and charged with shooting his college roommate four times with a 9 millimeter handgun at Windsor Village apartments in Hattiesburg. The victim was shot in the leg, arm and torso. One witness testified in court that as the victim tried to escape from the apartment after he was shot, Tutweiler continued shooting as the victim escaped out of the front of the apartment.
