VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta City Schools has released its proposed redistricting map and they want the public's feedback.

The new map is similar to the old map, but it does have a two changes.

"With the new map, the rezoning committee has created more realistic boundaries," said Assistant Superintendent Aldin Hudson. "They tried to maintain the integrity of a lot of the neighborhoods. Also, with the new proposed plan, it leaves more room for growth at all of our elementary schools."

Parents have already begun to voice their opinion of the new proposed map.

"We received some feedback from some of our parents through the Facebook page we have and a lot of the parents are replying that they like the map," Hudson pointed out.

The proposed map is not official though. The school board will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. in the S.L. Mason Elementary School gym on Thursday, March 13th for parents to comment on the proposed map. A second and final public comment meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18th at 7 p.m. in the W.G. Nunn Elementary School gym.

The rezoning committee will meet on Thursday, March 20th to discuss the comments and make any adjustments to the map. The map will then be presented to the Board of education for final approval on Tuesday, March 24th.

"We encourage our families to go to our web site, to take a look at the map. If they have feedback, please provide us with [it]," added Hudson.

The map can be viewed at http://www.gocats.org/content.asp?pid=86&id=3299. You can visit Valdosta City Schools' Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/valdostacityschools.
