MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - New development along Maxwell Boulevard in Montgomery is quickly taking shape. Over the next few months, the first luxury apartments that overlook the Alabama River will be complete.

The expected finish date is sometime this September. The development will be called The Heights and will feature 164 one and two bedroom units. One-bedroom apartments will start at about $1,000 a month, and two-bedrooms will start at about $1,400.

The Heights is just part of the ongoing plans to redevelop and revitalize this important gateway to the City of Montgomery. The developers from Stone River Company say they're getting a lot of calls already about rentals.

Montgomery's Development Director Mac McLeod says they are working with a developer to bring another big project to Maxwell Boulevard, very close to the gates at Maxwell Air Force Base. McLeod says the city expects to make the official announcement in the coming weeks.

The other piece of property owned by the city of Montgomery is the historic Chappell House. The house has been vacant for several years, but will soon get a new life, according to McLeod. They're working to attract a buyer to bring the old plantation house back to life.
