Marion County woman dies in head-on collision near Columbia

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Marion County woman is dead after a head-on collision near Columbia.

At 2:30 p.m. Thursday the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 586. 

Tammy Dunaway 51, of Foxworth was traveling westbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Aimee Lorio 30, of Foxworth was traveling eastbound in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with 5-year-old Tori Lorio occupying the right rear passenger seat. 

Lorio failed to maintain proper lane of travel, crossing the centerline and colliding with Dunaway head on. Tammy Dunaway, Aimee Lorio and Tori Lorio were transported to Forrest General Hospital by AAA Ambulance for treatment. 

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Tammy Dunaway died from injuries sustained in the crash.  As of 10 p.m. Aimee Lorio was listed in critical but stable condition and Tori Lorio was been treated for minor injuries. 

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and 5-year -old Lorio was restrained properly in a child restraint seat at the time of the accident. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

    The MS Bureau of Investigation confirms eight people were shot and killed overnight in Lincoln County. One of those dead includes a Lincoln County deputy.
