JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The only commercial airline at the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport, Silver Airways, may soon be pulling out after just 1 1/2 years. Airport officials say it's likely the Florida-based airline will not renew its two-year agreement.

They say poor management and new FAA rules have hurt reliability.

The airport is trying to attract a new air carrier and asking frequent users of the airport to help, by providing information about the trips they've made, as well as average fares and the airlines they've flown.

"It's very simple, what we're asking for is that if you do a lot of air travel, it could be six or eight trips up to 50 a year, we just want to know that data," said Tom Heanue, executive director of the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Authority. "It's very important that we show community support to the carrier also," he said.
