Insurance agency helps people understand Affordable Care Act

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - With the deadline fast approaching for people without some type of health insurance to get insured, an insurance agency from Flowood has been traveling throughout the state to better educate folks on the Affordable Care Act and take them through the process to enroll.

Today they were at the Hattiesburg Train Depot. The Affordable Care Act became law in 2010 which requires all people to have health insurance. Those people covered by the their companies health plan and those on medicaid or medicare will need to do nothing. Those who are uninsured will have to purchase it. The deadline for enrolling in a plan is March, 31.

"From April 1 through October 10 there may be some special enrollment like if you give birth to a child or if you lose your job," said Benny Hubbard, Hubbard Financial Services.  "So there will be some special enrollment, but for those people who they think they can wait, if you qualify now the deadline is March,31."

Hubbard says people should check to see if they qualify for any subsidies or tax credits to help pay for the insurance.
