Nick Goepper returns home after Sochi win

HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -

Lawrenceburg, Ind. native Nick Goepper returned to the Tri-State on Tuesday after winning a bronze medal in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

And he's come a long way since first learning to ski at age five on the slopes of Perfect North.

Goepper, 19, finished third in the men's slopestyle skiing competition behind two other Americans. Gold went to Joss Christensen, 22, of Park City, Utah, and silver to Gus Kenworthy, 22, of Telluride, Colo.

The United States swept the podium for only the third time in Winter Games history. He won gold in the 2014 Winter X games before competing in Sochi, Russia.

On Tuesday, the local skier was met by family, friends and reporters at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Lawrenceburg High School also held a pep rally for Goepper.

An active Twitter user, Goepper was looking for a Valentine's date and asked fans to send him a Valentine with the hashtag #IwanttodateNick. The most creative invitation won a "dream date" with the bronze medalist.

Welcome home, Nick!
