Local festival celebrates Black History Month

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Columbia High School will host the Black History Festival onSaturday.

Admission is free and open to the public. The event startsat 2 p.m. and runs through 5 p.m.

The theme of the festival will be "Art in Education, Mentoring,and Sharing our Culture," and military soldiers and families will be honored.  The Mistress of Ceremonies will be ToniTerrell of WHRP.

The festival will recognize those who have won Soldiers ofthe Year Award, Black History Artist of the Year Award, Black History Teacherof the Year Award and Black History Poem of the Year Award.

There will be a gospel choir, capoeira,performing arts, music,dance, art and more.

Free food will be served to attendees. The festival issponsored by Rosie's International Services, Inc.

    Fans were waiting in the parking lot Wednesday outside Hattiesburg High School for tickets to go on sale for the 5A South State Championship Friday night. The Tigers are hosting the Laurel Tornadoes in a I-59 showdown.  The game, a repeat of the "Lil' Brown Jug" game will give the Tornadoes the chance at revenge, after Hattiesburg won the rivalry game 20-14 in August.
