AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

The Auburn University Aviation program will maintain its AABI Accreditation, allowing the program to grow. The program had been in jeopardy until recently.

The AABI is the Aviation Accreditation Board International which sets standards for all aerospace programs in the U.S. and around the world.

With the maintained accreditation, JetBlue Airways' University Gateway Program will also continue and aviation students will be able to participate in internships and get hired with reduced flight hours.

The announcement is big news for aviation program after the program was on verge of elimination less than a year ago.

A new building is in the works to house the program after a long-determined fight by industry leaders and alumni was waged to save the program.

AABI Accreditation will be maintained, ensuring a positive future for the nation's oldest continually-operated aviation program and industry leader.
