HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Oseola McCarty Youth Development Center will host the first Read Across America Day at the Hattiesburg City Hall March 2nd.
The event will feature carnival activities such as arts and crafts, games, reading activities and treats for all participants.
A class will also be taught by Justin Loftin from the youth development center on the importance of reading, and picking proper literature for children.
"We are looking to get families to come out and get them involved and engaged to raise awareness for illiteracy in our state," said Loftin.
Councilwoman Deborah Delgado will also declare March 2nd as Hattiesburg's annual Read Across America Day during the event.
The special guest will be Mississippi Collegiate America Kaley Ford.
