BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An Alabama man accused of filing more than 20 fraudulent state tax returns since 2009, bilking Louisiana out of close to $32,000, has been arrested.

The Advocate reports 45-year-old John Clifton Nikolakis Jr., of Mobile, Ala., was booked Monday on 23 counts of filing or maintaining false public records and computer fraud and one count of felony theft.

According to the arrest warrant, Nikolakis filed a series of fraudulent returns from June 11, 2009, until Dec. 7, 2013, that netted him $31,981.

Byron Henderson, a spokesman for the state Department of Revenue, said Tuesday he could not comment on the arrest because he did not have information about the case.

It was unclear whether Nikolakis has an attorney.
