COLLINS, MS (WDAM) -

Quick response by Collins firefighters helped prevent the spread of a blaze which broke out at a city convenience store Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials said a fryer unit which caught fire at the Jr. Food Mart at the intersection of Fir and Main Streets about one p.m. did heavy smoke damage and destroyed some products, but did little structural damage.

And shortly before the fire, parts of the city lost power for about 15 minutes because of a downed power line, but officials said the two incidents were unrelated.
