DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Police are searching for the man who they said shot another man Tuesday afternoon in Decatur.

Emergency crews responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 600 block of 2nd Avenue Southeast. A witness in the area reported seeing multiple police cars and ambulances in front of a business.

Attorney Eric Summerford said a woman came to his law office at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Prospect Drive to pay half of the fee for a no-contest divorce. He said when she walked outside, her husband was there.

A witness who works at a business next door said he heard loud arguing, and when he got ouside, saw a man beat another man to the ground. A third man then shot the man who was still standing.

An elementary school just a few hundred feet away took security precautions to ensure students were safe as they left school. School resource officers at Banks-Caddell Elementary walked students out to parents' vehicles in a controlled release, according to safety supervisor Dwight Satterfield.

Police said the victim was shot in the leg. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

Investigators said the shooter's vehicle was discovered unoccupied near East Acres. Police released the name and image of the suspected shooter, Richard Jake Mitchell, also known as "Lil Bok." He is 5'11," 150 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous.

If anyone has information on his whereabouts, they are asked to call Decatur Police at 256-341-4660.
