Southern Miss student hosts Dancing against substance abuse event

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Dance will host Dancing Against Substance Abuse Monday at 6 p.m.

The event is choreographed by Performance and Choreography student Alexis Barbaresi, and the event is inspired by true events.

"Experiencing a sibling undergoing the effects of substance abuse for the past decade has really opened my eyes to the danger of drugs," said Barbaresi in a press release. "If one person leaves the room feeling like they know more about substance abuse and the awareness of it all, I will feel accomplished."

The piece includes eight members of the Repertory Dance Company who will portray various roles in a family.

The event is partnered with Student health services, and will feature three speakers who will give their personal testimonies with drug addiction.
