BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A former University of Alabama football player is facing charges after being arrested on Sunday. Alabama running back Dee Hart was charged with one count of giving false information and second degree possession of marijuana.

According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, officers responded on Sunday night to the Texaco gas station on Greensboro Avenue around 5:50 p.m. The cashier told officers a customer had given him counterfeit money.

The customer, later identified as Demetrius Damar Hart, was still in the store and officers approached him about the possibility of the money being counterfeit. According to Tuscaloosa police, Hart was taken into custody at the store for giving a false name.

Hart was transported to the Tuscaloosa Police Department for processing. Officers say they smelled a strong odor of marijuana when they opened the door to let Hart out of the patrol car.

A bag containing 8 grams of marijuana was found near Hart's feet. Tuscaloosa PD says the car had been searched before Hart was placed in the vehicle, per Tuscaloosa PD policy.

Hart was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1,300 bond.

A University of Alabama sports spokesperson confirmed that Dee Hart has not been a part of the UA football team since after the Sugar Bowl game.
