HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A performance by country music star Marty Stuart and a tribute to Delta blues legend Robert Johnson are two of the highlights of the 5th annual FestivalSouth, which will run from June 7-21 in Hattiesburg.
Friday, festival organizers hosted a news conference at Tabella Restaurant to announce details of the festival, which will include dozens of performances at various venues in the Hub City.
The theme for this year's festival is "From Bluegrass to Broadway."
"We have 46 events at 22 different venues here in Hattiesburg," said Jay Dean, artistic director for FestivalSouth. "And we're very excited about this event and what it's going to do for our local citizens and bringing (in) tourists," he said.
"You look at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, you look at Sunfest in South Florida, you look at the larger festivals, they started out small, and so I think FestivalSouth has that potential to grow to something, really, in a big way," said Tom Pearson, executive director of the Mississippi Arts Commission, which is a co-sponsor of the festival.
