Fire destroys Shady Grove home in Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A large column of dark black smoke could be seen for several miles Thursday afternoon, February 13, as fire destroyed a home in the Shady Grove community of Jones County.

At 1:39 p.m. fire units from Shady Grove and Sharon responded to 1247 Springhill Road to the home of Tim Headrick.  Upon arrival firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames.  Shady Grove Fire Chief David Houston immediately requested additional water support and manpower from Jasper County, Moss and Stringer VFDs, as well as Calhoun and Soso VFDs in Fire District 1 of Jones County.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters remained on scene for over three hours performing fire suppression, overhaul, and salvage operations. 

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation by Jones County Sheriff's Department Fire Investigator Scott Gable and the State Fire Marshal.

Also responding to the fire were Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Council Chaplain Brother Drew Blanton, Jones County Sheriff's Department, and Dixie Electric Power Association.
