HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Today's Midday Guest was Susan Light with the Pink Ribbon Fund, and Rose Ingram with the American Cancer Society.
This is a news release from the Pink Ribbon Fund
The beautiful historic Hattiesburg downtown train depot will be transformed in to a "Downton Abbey"- themed tea room for the 2nd annual "Pink Ribbon English Tea" on Saturday April 5th from 2 - 4pm. Thanks to their generous sponsors who cover all fund raising expenses or provide needed services, 100% of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Pink Ribbon Fund which provides compassionate financial assistance to Pine Belt residents for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Wanda Howard, Presenting Sponsor and owner of "Celebrations, Etc... Party Rentals," sums up the sentiments of all the sponsors, "We believe in contributing to our community, and this organization provides a service that's definitely needed and we know in our hearts, it's the right thing to do. Actually, at last year's tea, a survivor thanked us, and made it so real when she described how the Fund had made a difference in her life. We're really looking forward to this year's event in the beautiful train depot. It's the perfect setting."
Over 20 Pine Belt interior designers, florists and decorators will create one-of-a-kind table-scapes, transforming the depot into a magical turn-of-the century English Tea Room, making this a visual, as well as a culinary, feast. Savory sandwiches and sweet pastries from treasured heirloom recipes provided by the Hattiesburg British Wives Club will be prepared by expert local caterer, Mitzi Russell of Crawford Catering Consulting, and served by Forrest General "Spirit Girls." Guests will also enjoy a "Downton" - themed fashion show and background music by the "Hub City String Quartet."
There will be a fabulous silent auction filled with unique items, and a plant sale. The winner of a $2,750 platinum and diamond Art Deco ring donated by Light's Jewelers & Gemologists from their Estate Collection will be announced. Raffle tickets (one for $10, or three for $20) are available from any Pink Ribbon Fund volunteer or at Light's in Newpointe Shopping Center on 98 West.
According to Susan Light, Co-Founder of the Fund, "There's hardly a person whose life hasn't been touched by this disease, whether it's a mother, sister, daughter or friend - and some men, too, have gotten breast cancer. The problem many patients face is that they haven't the resources to pay for their diagnosis or treatment. But, Pink Ribbon is a beacon of hope to them. Our Grant Applications are available at the FGH Cancer Center, at several doctors' offices throughout the Pine Belt, or on line at our website, pinkribbonfund.org.
Last year's event was a complete sell-out. So, organizers recommend getting tickets as soon as possible. Individual tickets are $30. Businesses, groups, and families may purchase tables for $300. Tickets may be ordered with a check to:
