Groundhog casts shadow on Pine Belt's hope of early spring

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

On Sunday the groundhog brought unfortunate news to many folks in the Pine Belt, predicting six more weeks of winter.

"I don't like that groundhog," said Tara Hawkins.

After asking local people their reactions to Phil seeing his shadow, it seems that most people were hoping for an early spring. However the majority of them do not have much faith in the groundhog.

"I don't put much stock in that," said Shirley Young.

"It's like puppies and kittens predicting the Super Bowl," agreed James Scruggs.
